Winsor Hill Wax Museum a trip through time

There were a lot of proud parents inside the Winsor Hill Elementary School gymnasium last Friday.

They were parents of some super students who took young and old alike on a journey back to the days of the American Revolution.

For the past two months, Winsor Hill fifth graders have been studying those days of yesteryear beginning with the divide between Britain and the Colonies, the French and Indian Wars and many other causes that angered Colonists.

“Our students also learned about the major battles in the American Revolution leading to the Colonists freedom,” said Dionna Gajdowski, one of three Winsor Hill fifth grade teachers who steered the project.

As a special way to showcase the student’s lessons, Gajdowski along with colleagues Gabrielle Harwood and Kaelin Kirby had their prized pupils create a highly-impressive and interesting Wax Museum.

“We thought this would be a great way to culminate the project,” said Gajdowski. “The students had the choice to study a major player in the American Revolution, a major cause or a major battle.”

Those projects also included a five paragraph information essay, a backboard presentation, an activation button, costume and a memorized speech. The Winsor Hill fifth graders were also encouraged to include technology into their presentations to connect their fellow students.

“We’re really proud of all our students,” Gajdowski said. “They worked so hard to help take our listeners back in time to the American Revolution. All the children went above and beyond to find interesting facts that may have been unknown about their areas of study.”
