CHALLENGERS
* * ½
(Love on the tennis court)

Zendaya stars as up-and-coming tennis star Tashi who enters into a relationship with Pat and Art, two young friends/tennis partners/tennis rivals.

It’s a complicated arrangement, starting with beginning of a ménage à trois, started and ended by her.

She marries one of them and has an affair with the other.

The problem with the movie lies in its convoluted presentation, jumping around in time from 13 years ago until the present.

There are some decent shots of fast-moving, hard-hitting tennis matches, but if you are looking for a sports movie, this isn’t it.

There are too many attempts to tie the game of tennis to the game of love, and it is hard to believe that these ego-centered people were capable of love.

AVON

EXHUMA
* * ½

This two-and-a-quarter hour Korean import may interest people who care about the dark side of Korean history and culture, but it didn’t do much for us.

The slow-moving tale involves a wealthy family who hire a shaman to investigate a supernatural illness that has affected their first-born in the past and present.

They hire a shady mortician who specializes in grave moving who locates a haunted grave. The body is exhumed. Strange incidents occur.

There seems to be references to Korean history and politics, but I didn’t get it.
