SHOPLIFTING

At 7:03 p.m., Aug. 5, 2023, Warwick Police responded to Best Buy at 24 Universal Boulevard, for the report of a shoplifting incident. Loss prevention employees told police that a man in a black shirt, with a black hat, black pants and black sneakers entered the store at the install bay around 2:54 p.m., picked up a BackBone controller (valued at $99.99) and concealed the item in his pants.

The suspect then asked a store employee for help. When that employee went to the back of the store, the suspect told another employee that he needed to run out to his car. The suspect left the scene, allegedly with the controller in his pants, without paying for the item, and drove from the scene in silver Honda Civic (captured on surveillance).

Store security did an inventory check and then checked video surveillance. The suspect allegedly returned to the store about three hours later, and was confronted by the store manager, who informed the man he was caught stealing on video. When the manager asked the man to return the item, the man allegedly exited the store and fled in the same vehicle as earlier.

Police checked the vehicle’s registration and it traced back to Ezee Rental and Leasing. The business helped police track down the suspect, whom they identified as Jason Aniello Jr., 48, of 245 West Natick Road, Apt. 219, Warwick.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Aniello on a misdemeanor Shoplifting charge.

On April 8, of this year, Warwick Police Officer Connor R. Bemis encountered Aniello while on routine patrol at Extended Stay, 245 West Natick Road. He recognized Aniello and placed him under arrest on the active arrest warrant. He was transported to the Warwick Police Department, booked and later released.

WARRANT ARREST

At 9:59 a.m., April 9, Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray responded to Motel 6 at 20 Jefferson Boulevard for the report of a 911 hang-up call. Motel staff informed police the call came from the front of the building, possibly room 239. When police went to the room, they encountered Kyle D. Giaccarini, 30, of 20 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick (the motel).

Following a background check, police found Giaccarini “was wanted out of Woonsocket Police for burglary and had two court warrants,” according to the arrest report.

Giaccarini was arrested and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, booked, and later picked up by Woonsocket Police.

SHOPLIFTING

Around 5:54 p.m., April 5, Warwick Police were dispatched to the Warwick Mall Target at 400 Bald Hill Road where an asset protection specialist wanted to report a shoplifting incident from earlier that day.

Police were informed that the suspect had taken merchandise valued at $367.46 from the store and left without paying. Police were given a description and surveillance images. They also handed over the description of the vehicle, a white 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, in which the suspect left the scene.

Police ran the vehicle registration and linked the vehicle to a woman, identified by police as Melody Johnson, 58, of 321 Cowesett Ave., Apt. 508, West Warwick. Police wrote an arrest warrant for Johnson on one misdemeanor Shoplifting charge.

On April 12, Johnson arrived in the lobby of the Warwick Police Department, and turned herself in on the active warrant. She was booked and later released with a Third District Court summons.

DRUG ARREST

Around 12:35 a.m., April 14, Warwick Police working a DUI Riptide Patrol spotted a black 2014 Volkswagen driving west on Airport Road near the Post Road intersection.

The vehicle was stopped over the stop line, “positioned within the intersection itself,” according to the arrest report.

The driver was later identified as Michael D. Good, 44, of 29 Crossen St., West Warwick. He allegedly told police that he was driving from Providence to his home in West Warwick.

“While speaking with Good, I observed that he had bloodshot watery eyes,” Warwick Police Officer Nicholas P. DeLuca wrote in the arrest report. “He appeared very nervous and jittery while speaking to me. He kept (tapping) his hands and fidgeting. He also appeared to be anxious, had signs of dry mouth, and kept sniffling. When asked if there was anything in the vehicle to include illegal drugs, Good hesitated and looked away when I asked specifically if there was any Crack Cocaine in the vehicle.”

DeLuca asked Good to exit the vehicle. He then asked the driver to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests.

Partway into the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, “Good requested to stop field sobriety testing.”

Police requested “verbal consent” to search Good’s vehicle, based on “their nervous behavior observed.” Good refused consent, so police requested a K-9 be called to the scene. A Rhode Island State Police Trooper responded.

A passenger in the car, identified as Tonya M. Staten, 38, of Providence, was placed under arrest for two active bench warrants.

The K-9’s handler informed Warwick Police at the scene that the dog had “positively hit in several locations of the vehicle to include the driver’s side door, center console, running board on the passenger’s side.”

Police searched where the dog indicated and found “several used needles in a green bag located between the passenger’s side seat and the center console,” DeLuca wrote. “There was also a small green circular container under the driver’s seat.”

Inside, police said they found “a white rock like substance known to me through my training and experience as a Police Officer, as well as being a certified Drug Recognition Exert, as Crack Cocaine.”

Good was arrested and secured in the rear of a cruiser. He was read his rights.

Good was “adamant that he ‘had no knowledge’ of the contraband,” according to police. He was transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, booked, and subsequently charged with Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (under 10 grams). He was held in custody, “due to his probation status,” according to police.

He was also cited for Obedience to Traffic Control Devices.
