The energy sponsors of the Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund (GNEF) and its administrator, United Way of Rhode Island, recently announced that the Tri-County Community Action Agency has been recognized with the Fund’s 2016-2017 David H. Gulvin Chairman’s Award.

The Chairman’s Award honors an organization that has displayed a special dedication to the Fund. Tri-County Community Action Agency, based in Johnston, has played a key role in the success of the GNEF since the Fund’s inception in 1986. The CAP (Community Action Program) agency has always gone above and beyond expectations, making sure the community is aware of the Fund while working diligently with those in need to provide assistance through the GNEF.

The Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund is a safety net for households in crisis who are having trouble paying their energy bills. The State’s local CAP agencies determine household eligibility for the Fund based on total household income not exceeding 300 percent of the federal poverty level. The Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund’s sponsoring energy companies and United Way of Rhode Island continue to encourage those in need of energy assistance to visit a local CAP agency to determine if the Fund can be a source of relief. For those who are looking for assistance from the Fund but are unsure of the CAP agency in their area, please call the United Way 2-1-1 information line.
