The Bridge celebrates town's first responders at annual breakfast

As soon as Johnston Police Chief Richard S. Tamburini walked into the main lobby at The Bridge at Cherry Hill, Jane Cimaglia – a familiar face and unofficial greeter – had a special smile on her face that was as bright at the morning’s sun.

Tamburini quickly gave Cimaglia a grand “good morning” greeting, adding, “It’s always great to see you, Jane!”

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Joseph P. Razza chatted with Jen Burns, The Bridge’s sales/community relations director, as well as Maryann Grace, the assisted living residence’s executive director.

It all signaled the start of yet another chapter in the award-winning facility’s “hospitality at its best” events.

Likewise, The Bridge’s parking lot was overflowing with police and Johnston Fire Department vehicles, which carried a number of firefighters to last Thursday’s unique happening – officially dubbed the fourth annual First Responders Breakfast.

“We like to give back and show our appreciation for the courageous and tireless work our first responders so,” Burns said while greeting the overflow crowd of police and firefighters. “It’s also about community. Johnston is a small, tight-knit town, and we rely on our first responders for help and protection.”

Amid seemingly unmatched camaraderie – and highlighted by what Tamburini called “chef Marvin Carter’s culinary expertise” – a host of first responders filled The Bridge’s sitting room and enjoyed a bountiful breakfast. The gathering is actually one of two annual events the Grace and Burns began together some four years ago.

“The residents and staff here at The Bridge are so thankful that we have such exemplary men and women who can rely on,” Burns said. “It’s our little way of thanking them for everything they do.”

Carter, with assistance from dining room supervisor Ann Marie Cardilli, set up a lavish, all-you-can eat buffet that included bacon, eggs, pancakes, hash browns, English muffins, assorted Danish and muffins, fresh fruit, croissants and, of course, coffee.

“In June, we’ll do our annual First Responders Cookout on the outside patio, weather permitting,” Burns said. “That’s always a great event, and of course Marvin goes all out for our valued fire and police personnel.”

Tamburini then emphasized: “Once again we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast sponsored by then fantastic staff here at The Bridge.”

Razza added while thanking Burns and Carter: “We truly appreciate the support that the staff and residents at The Bridge provide to our first responders, and kudos to Chef Marvin and special thanks to Jen and Maryann for all you do.”
