Valerie Jacavone, the school nurse-teacher at Sarah Dyer Barnes Elementary School, expressed gratitude to Rep. Deborah Fellela, whom she said is always there for Johnston students. Jacavone issued that statement Friday at the Kelley-Gazzero VFW Post on Plainfield Street, after Fellela presented her with a $1,000 legislative grant. Jacavone said the grant would be used for the school’s annual Wellness Program-Healthy Kids Day that is held in June. The day’s activities will include health education programs and visits from the Fire Department Rescue Team, RI Heart Association, LifeSpan, physicians and dermatologists who will speak on sun protection.
