LLS set to host Superhero Race

“Grab your best superhero costume as well as friends and sidekicks and help us become one step closer to save the world from blood cancer.”

That’s special request from the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society’s unique Junior Board of Directors that will rewrite the Town of Johnston’s tradition-rich sports history book this Saturday morning (April 27) inside War Memorial Park.

For starters, the LLS Junior Board of Directors, as Jordan Browning was saying the other morning, is an enthusiastic and energetic well-organized group of young professionals “striving for a world without blood cancer.”

Browning, who is the LLS coordinator for the highly-successful Student of the Year Campaign, announced that the Junior Board of Directors will host its first-ever Superhero Race Saturday inside Johnston War Memorial Park.

“Please join us for a day of fitness, fun, food, friendship and FINDING A CURE AT our first annual Superhero Run,” said Jordan, who noted this Saturday’s event will actually be a two-fold event.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in War Memorial Park and a 1-K fun run for children is set to step off at 9:30 a.m. with a full-fledged 5-K (3.1-mile) road race beginning at 10 o’clock.

Entry fee is only $10 for the children’s 1-K while the LLS Junior Board of Governor’s has set $30 for the 3.1-mile road race. Each entry fee includes a Superhero wrist band and exclusively designed Superhero t-shirt.

And, as Browning, who was speaking on behalf of the LLS Junior Board of Directors, wanted it known, “One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Superhero runs will go to benefit the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society.”

Perhaps one member of the LLS Junior Board of Directors put it is best during a recent press briefing about Saturday’s Superhero runs, “I am curing cancer, what’s your Superhero power?”

Anyone who’d like to enter the race or would like further information concerning Saturday’s runs or the Rhode Island Chapter in general should call the LLS headquarters located at 2347 Post Road in Warwick at (401) 854-4418.

Browning also issued a reminder that the LLS Man & Woman of the Year Campaign Grand Finale will be held on May 11 at the Providence Biltmore Hotel. Tickets are $125 per person and may be purchased by calling Carla Mulhearn, executive director of the LLS RI Chapter, at (401) 943-888- Ext. 1715.
