New year, new you

Posted

You see it on billboards, in advertising for clothes and make-up. But isn’t that a little daunting? It’s overwhelming to have to be a totally new you, so I’m going to break it down and give you some simple steps.

First, let’s start with our look. This year, make a promise to yourself to go through all your clothes and decide what you wear, what looks good and, most of all, what makes you feel good. Throw away the comfy clothes that make it look like you just rolled out of bed. Save some for projects around the house, but ditch the rest. Decide on the perfect pants for you and invest in a couple of good pairs.

I love leggings with pretty tops. You can find nice Vera Wang leggings at Kohls. They are a nice quality and come in different colors and styles. Pair these with a cute boot and flowy top and you have an outfit that goes from the workplace to the restaurant. Vests, scarves and cute hats complete the outfit.

Now let’s move on to our attitude. Take all the anger that you’ve been holding inside and simply let it go. All those imagined slights and rude comments, just let them go. You know they say that “Anger is like a poison you take, hoping the other person will die.” The best revenge is happiness. Wake up every day and count your blessings. It’s hard to be crabby when you feel in abundance.

Another great thing to do for the new year is commit to making a difference. Go to City Hall and understand the way your local government works. You can’t sit back and complain about the state of your city if you don’t take the time to understand who’s running the show and what changes you can help facilitate. You can make a difference!

Lastly, try to be more kind this year. Hold open a door, smile, do something nice for a neighbor. All these little things add up, and I promise you that when you make people smile you can’t help but smile yourself.

Have a great holiday and a Happy New Year.
