Ready for what’s next

Johnston High School held its annual Junior Nite last Thursday, inviting representatives of colleges and universities from around New England to discuss what their respective institutions have to offer.

School-based coordinator Joseph Pirraglia told the Sun Rise that approximately 50 to 60 parents attended with their children to ask questions about academic and extracurricular programs, as well as sports, costs and tuition.

Twenty schools set up at the event, including the University of Rhode Island, UMass-Dartmouth, Southern New Hampshire University and Nichols College.

“What we felt was – me, guidance and the school administration – rather than having parents driving to schools to get this information, we invited them to Johnston High School so they could get that information that way,” Pirraglia said.

Pirraglia said the Rhode Island College Planning Center was also on hand to discuss federal and private student loans, scholarship grants and work-study opportunities.
