As the 2017-2018 school year draws to a close, the Class of 2018 finds themselves preparing for many final events. Of these is the annual Senior Honor Awards Night. This event, hosted by the Johnston High School Guidance Department, highlights those individuals who dedicated their senior to academics, extracurriculars, sports, and the school in general.

Tonight, Thursday, May 17, those seniors who have shown excellence in the five major branches of education- Math, Science, English, History, and Foreign Language- will be awarded. Additionally, those students who have dedicated their high school years to sports will be awarded.

Furthermore, while there are many extracurriculars offered at Johnston High, they would not be as functional without their student leaders. Those students who have shown leadership and taken charge of these clubs and activities will also be awarded for the tremendous amount of work they have put in to make the school year a success.

The final section of awards received on this eventful night are the scholarships. Seniors have spent months stressing out about college and tuition and have been frantically applying to numerous scholarships. At this Honor Awards Night, those students who have succeeded in being awarded a scholarship for their work and dedication to education throughout high school will be recognized.

This night, for most, is the final award ceremony where they will be academically recognized and it is bound to be an unforgettable event.
