Artistic Director Herci Marsden and The State Ballet of Rhode Island are proud to announce the hometown debut performance of alumni soloist dancer, Corey Bourbonniere, of Woonsocket, RI, who is now a professional dancer with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

Bourbonierre will dance the male lead role of Albrecht in The State Ballet of Rhode Island’s March 23, 2013, 2 p.m. performance of Giselle, a timeless love story of romance, deception, betrayal and forgiveness. Giselle will be performed at Roberts Auditorium, Rhode Island College, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence, RI. Following the show, there will be a meet and greet celebration with Bourbonierre for theater patrons, dancers, and family.

“I'm so honored to be able to be a part of the first ballet I was ever in, on the stage where I first performed ballet. I can't wait for my friends and family to be able to see how much I've grown, and I can't tell you how much it means to me to get to perform at home again,” Bourbonniere said.

Bourbonniere, 20, received his ballet training at The State Ballet of RI. His first performance in a ballet was with SBRI in a walk-on role in Herci Marsden’s Giselle in 2006, and now his career has come full circle with SBRI as he takes the stage as Giselle’s love interest, Albrecht.

With his passion for classical ballet ignited, Corey auditioned successfully for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive Program in 2009 at the age of 16. He was invited to stay for PBT’s Full-Time High School Program as well as its Graduate Program, where he performed the lead role of the "Waltz Boy" in George Balanchine's Serenade; that ballet and Maelstrom are his favorite pieces he has danced to date. Corey also attended summer programs at the American Academy of Dance and Texas Ballet Theater.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre promoted Bourbonniere to member of the company in summer 2012. He has danced in Andre Prokovsky's The Three Musketeers, Ben Stevenson's Dracula, Viktor Plotnikov's A Gershwin Fantasy, Jorden Morris's Peter Pan, John Neumeier's A Streetcar Named Desire, Mark Morris' Maelstrom, Antony Tudor's Jardin aux Lilas and Terrence Orr's The Nutcracker, Giselle and Coppelia.

“We at SBRI are so excited to share the stage once again with Corey and showcase his accomplishments for his native Rhode Island,” said Ana Marsden Fox, SBRI Executive Director. "His passion, growing artistry, and undeniable talent are clear to all who dance with him and watch him from afar. His SBRI family is proud of his achievements so far and look forward to enjoying his promising future,” the executive director said.

In addition to the March 23 performance, “Giselle” will also be performed March 22 at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. For tickets, contact the Rhode Island College box office at 401-456-8144 or the State Ballet of RI at 401-334-2560.
