Highlights of the decisions made, and items discussed, at the Johnston Town Council Meeting on Monday, February 12.

ORDINANCES TO BE READ

The following ordinances were introduced by the council, and will be voted on during March’s council meeting, during which time the public may pose questions.

Ordinance 2018-5 seeks to amend section 279-6-J of the Town Of Johnston code of ordinances entitled “Building sewers and permit requirements.” The ordinance amends the guidelines for sewer connections, and encompasses various types and names of sewer line connections.

BUSINESS LICENSES

A business operating license was approved for Peter Mollo Fitness located at 1340 Hartford Avenue for a personal training studio.

Rosario’s Multiservices, LLC, doing business as Rosario’s Multiservices, located at 71 Steuben Street in Providence, was granted a business operating license for snow plowing in the town.

A restaurant license for a full restaurant with holiday sales was granted to Sengduang LLC, doing business as Bangkok Restaurant and Lounge located at 1369 Hartford Avenue.

A phone calls only business operating license was approved for Christine McIntyre-Hannon, doing business as Hannon Art Works, located at 880 Greenville Avenue.

Located at 281 Morgan Avenue, McKinnon was granted a business operating license for snow removal.

All American Leather, Inc., located at 27 Mill Street #2 was approved for a business operating license for motorcycle accessories.

New tobacco licenses were granted to S&S Market doing business as Shop N Go at 237 Greenville Ave; EKSII Corp., doing business as Johnston Petroil located at 1401 Plainfield Pike; and Coliseum Sports Bar and Grille located at 23 Greenville Avenue.

LIQUOR LICENSING COMMISSION

Sengduang, LLC, doing business as Bankok Restaurant and Lounge at 1369 Hartford Avenue, was granted a class BV full liquor license.

CONSTITUENT REQUESTS

District 1 Councilman Richard DelFino III requested that a letter be sent to the Pawtuxet River Authority regarding an annual cleanup at the river.

Councilman David Santilli of District 3 requested street signs for Canonchet Trail. He also requested that a drain on Birch Tree Drive be inspected and repaired.

Councilman Robert Russo requested that issues regarding snow plowing on Milton Street be addressed.

Councilman Robert Civetti asked that potholes on Brown Avenue be fixed. He asked that drainage issues on Galini Drive near Greenville Avenue be addressed during repaving of Greenville Avenue. He requested “Slow Children” signs be installed along Belfield Drive and the possibility of having speed bumps installed. Civetti also requested that an abandoned house on that road be boarded up.

Council President Anthony Verardo thanked Councilman Civetti for his work on the recent audit.

NEW BUSINESS

James McHale was appointed to the Johnston Housing Authority to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Deborah Fellela.

A petition from National Grid and Verizon requesting to install a jointly on pole on Shun Pike was approved. Additional approval was given for the two companies to install three jointly owned poles on Shun Pike, Green Hill Road, and Plainfield Pike.

A petition submitted by Attorney William R. Landry, Esq. on behalf of Briarcliffe Realty Two, LLC. requesting that assessor’s plat 44-4, lot 61-54 Old Pocasset Road be changed from R-40 to a planned district/continuing care retirement community was referred to Planning.

A resolution declaring a list of vehicles from Public Works as surplus property was approved.

Resolution 2018-3, releasing the performance bond for Falcon Nest Estates and accepting roads known as Abatecola Way and Arno Maria Court was approved.

The council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement for Healthcare Business Services and Claims Audit. An additional resolution was approved authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement for Personal Property Appraisal Services.

A petition for the abandonment of a portion of Gugliucci Street was referred to Planning for an advisory opinion.

Two presentations, one for the town’s police and firefighter pension system actuarial review and another for employee benefits were given to the council for fiscal year 2017.

PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR ORDINANCES

An ordinance amending the Zoning Map of the town for assessor’s plat 44, lot 120-1222 Atwood Avenue from R-15 to B-1 was approved.

Ordinance 2018-4 was approved, which designated Manuel Avenue between poles 1 and 3 as a tow away zone for parking.

SHOW CAUSE HEARING

A show cause hearing was held for SMM New England Corporation, doing business as SIMS Metal Management, located at 14-15 Green Earth Avenue, which will be continued at next month’s council meeting.
