Stars are Out

The first day of summer was last Saturday, but for the Johnston Little League, summer really begins this weekend as all-star season gets underway.

The 12-year-old all-star team is first up, with the District 1 tournament beginning with a bang on Sunday evening. Johnston will host defending district champion Cranston West at 5:30 p.m. This group of Johnston players won the state title in the 9/10-year-old division two years ago.

The current 9/10 all-stars will get their first taste of action on Wednesday, July 2, with a game against the winner of a first-round tilt between Cranston Western and North Providence West. On Monday, July 7, the 11s begin district play, also against the winner of a first-round game between Cranston Western and North Providence West.

At the junior and senior level, where Johnston has dominated the state in recent years, the Johnston entries will get things started after the Fourth of July. The juniors begin district play on Wednesday, July 9 against the winner of a first-round game between Edgewood/South Elmwood and Elmwood. The seniors get started the next day, Thursday, July 10, also against Edgewood/South Elmwood or Elmwood.
