Ferri parking lot, roadway gets new surface

Posted

The ridges and ruts that have annoyed motorists for a number of years in the parking lot at Nicholas A. Ferri Middle School and Early Childhood Center are about to become a thing of the past.

Johnston-based Hartford Paving, which was founded by Anthony Corsinetti Sr. in 1974 and is now owned and operated by brothers Anthony and Chris Corsinetti, is busy resurfacing the entire roadway and parking lot that extends from the back entrance off Memorial Avenue, surrounds the gymnasium, and ends at the front parking lot.

“When our teachers and staff return next week, the entire parking lot will be ready for them,” Dr. Bernard DiLullo, superintendent of Johnston Public Schools, said Monday. “It will certainly be a welcome surprise and sight.”

DiLullo explained that after many years of deterioration and water damage, the entire area was in dire need of resurfacing.

Last Friday afternoon, the area was transformed into a dust bowl of sorts, as workers operating heavy equipment dug up the former pavement and began smoothing out the surface for the two-phase project.

“A new asphalt topcoat is being applied and the new surface will be constructed of two inches of binder course and two additional inches of surface course,” DiLullo said. He said this will create a smooth surface that is appropriately graded to avoid any water pooling.

Hartford Paving, which also operates Hartford Materials, is being assisted with the project by Cassisi Paving Specialists.

And like the brothers Corsinetti, Anthony Cassisi was on site, operating a huge multi-wheel grader that led to a new and smooth surface. 1
