Panthers’ cross country closes out season

The Johnston cross country team finished its season with a dual meet at Goddard Park on Tuesday afternoon that featured Bishop Hendricken, East Greenwich and Juanita Sanchez.

The Panthers’ boys fell to East Greenwich and Hendricken, while the Panthers’ girls team also fell to the Avengers.

The Panthers were led by Jake Hall on the boys’ side, who claimed 50th for the meet, finishing with a personal-best time of 19 minutes, 25 seconds. Joe Vota came in behind Hall in terms of Johnston runners, earning 67th with a time of 20 minutes, 53 seconds.

Other runners in the boys’ race for Johnston were: Ed Gallucci, Ivan Fernandez, Alfredo Garcia, Evan LaPlante, Jack Frenier, Andrew Lema and Tommy Nguyen.

Hendricken’s Dom Parlato took first place, while teammate Avery Ingegneri wasn’t far behind.

The girls’ race was dominated by a slew of East Greenwich runners.

The Johnston girls’ runners included: Noelle Proulx, Abby Heiser, Lizmar Torres and Alyssa Valequette.

The girls’ team concludes its season with no wins and a tie to its record, while the boys’ team recorded one win over Mount Pleasant on Sept. 28.
