National Honor Society holding Denim Drive

Posted

The National and Junior National Honor Societies from Johnston High School put on numerous fundraisers throughout the year to benefit the needy.

During this month, the members are participating in a fundraiser known as the “Denim Drive.” The National Honor Society is collecting pairs of jeans and any denim material from anybody willing to donate in the school. Not only are students donating their denim material, faculty and staff have become involved as well.

The denim drive is a fundraiser to help build houses for the needy. Five hundred pairs of jeans can build an entire house! The more jeans collected, the more houses that can be built.

Being a part of the National Honor Society means involving yourself in the community and this fundraiser helps the community in many ways. All the students on the society are working very hard to promote this fundraiser and get in as many denim items as they can.

National Honor Society had a dress down day on Friday, Oct. 10, where teachers either donated a pair of jeans to the denim drive or donated money so that jeans could be bought and donated. Overall the fundraiser is an ongoing success, and we couldn't be more pleased with the fantastic results so far!
