Although it wasn’t a record, the Johnston Association of Fire Fighters Local 1950 turned in another heart-warming effort, helping 32 families enjoy a complete Thanksgiving Dinner. “This is what our guys do,” Timothy McLaughlin, veteran chief of the Johnston Fire Department, said. “Our Fire Fighters are always doing something special for people in need – and the community, as well.” McLaughlin cited the recent Fire Bowl III, that for the third time in as many years helped re-stock the Tri-Town Community Action Agency’s Food Cupboard with donations of non-perishable items and monetary contribution as well from the day’s spirited contest.    “I think it’s great what these Fire Fighters continue to do in the way of charitable contributions,” McLaughlin went on. “This is one shining example of how are people area always giving back.”

Cherra Wheeler, who is captain of the JFD Fire Rescue, again chaired the Thanksgiving Basket Drive. Each basket is paid for by Local 1950 members. Wheeler said, “Our guys dive to into their pockets to help needy families at Thanksgiving.” Last week’s distribution included 32 food baskets and turkeys. The collection was bolstered by two baskets donated by the Munoz family.
