Some 60 people celebrated the National Day of Prayer last Thursday on the steps of Johnston Town Hall.

Pastor Thomas Fava of Trinity Assembly of God officiated during the noontime ceremony, which included a number of prayers as well as scripture readings.

The Rev. Jeremy McLellan read the “Prayer for Government,” and Trinity Christian Academy students Jamie Palazzo, Andrew Fortier and Alvaro Cardoza sang the song “Broken Vessels/Amercing Grace.”

Gina Fava read the “Prayer for the Schools of America,” while Craig Deming read the “Prayer for Local Business” and Donna Crews read the “Prayer for Youth and their Families.”

“We must continue to have this day,” Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena told the day’s attendees, including a contingent of Johnston police led by Chief Richard S. Tamburini, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. “There are people who are trying to make this day go way. We cannot and will not allow that to happen.”

Fava delivered the closing prayer, and the ceremony was coordinated by Crews.
