Otis C. Wyatt, Jr., age 96, died peacefully in his sleep on July 13, 2024, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, Schenectady, New York. Otis was born on October 15, 1927, in Providence, RI and was the son of the late Otis C. and Prudence (Flagg) Wyatt, Sr.

After high school, Otis enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard and served in multiple locations from 1945 to 1946. Upon his honorable discharge, Otis earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Rhode Island. Otis met his first wife, the late Patricia, and the two were wed in 1950. Otis enjoyed a rewarding fifty-year-long career in the fire service, beginning as a teenage volunteer with the Cataract Fire Company. His firefighting career progressed throughout the years, as he later joined the Warwick Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief, after which he became the Fire Chief of the Narragansett Fire Department. Otis also proudly served as a member of the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs, the New England Association of Fire Chiefs, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

In 2013, Otis married his second wife and longtime friend, Paula, and retired the same year to Florida.  He enjoyed gatherings with family, friends and colleagues; traveling the country in his RV, international travel, swimming, and actively supporting the communities in which he lived.  

Otis is survived by his children Robert (Linda) Wyatt, Randall D. (Sandra) Wyatt, and Russell (Scott) Wyatt; his daughter-in-law Lynet Gaia Wyatt; his grandchildren Chase Wyatt, Austin Wyatt, Robert Wyatt, Jr., Michael Wyatt, Kristin Wyatt, and Laura (Nicholas) Trainy; and his brothers David (Janet) Wyatt, and Fred (Carolyn) Wyatt, and sister Shirley Nuttal.

In addition to his parents, Otis is preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Wyatt; his second wife Paula J. Wyatt; his son Richard Wyatt; and his sisters Judy Anderson and Marjorie Dellers.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave, Warwick, RI.

A Firefighter’s Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 Noon, at the funeral home.

Interment with firefighter and military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at 1:00 PM, in the Columbarium Chapel at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 S County Trail, Exeter, RI.
