The Johnston Little League All-Star teams wrapped up their summers this past week as they fell in their respective district brackets.
The JLL 12’s fell to North Providence 12-0 on Tuesday night to see its season some to a close.
“I’m very proud of the kids. They worked their tails off these last three weeks of summer practicing every day, three hours a day. It’s an honor to have been the manager this year. I know these kids are going to make it far in life and I’m really happy that I had an influence in that. It has been a pleasure to coach these kids,” said 12’s manager Mike Orsini.
The JLL 10’s most recently fell on the road to Cranston Western in a 16-1 decision to see its summer run come to a close. Lucas Heywood scored the team’s lone run in the loss while he also picked up a strikeout on the mound. Luca Orsini also recorded a strikeout in relief.
The team fell to North Providence 7-0 the previous game for its first loss. Jack Kelly was solid on the mound, finishing with five strikeouts.
The team picked up a 22-5 win over Mt. Pleasant earlier in the tournament. Jaziel Roques had a monster outing for JLL, finishing the day with five RBI while Lucas Proulx added four more. Max Batista and Mason Paquin also knocked in multiple runs. Johnny Gosselin tossed three innings on the mound and struck out five batters.
The 11-U team played its final game of the summer when it fell to North Providence in a tough 6-5 decision. NP would get the walk-off win in nine innings to grab the victory.
Vinnie Leuropa led the way at the dish with a pair of runs scored while Efrain Herrera and Anthony Vieira also drove in runs. Marcus Rego, Vieira, Boston Wood and Mason Lombardi combined for 14 strikeouts on the mound.
