Cranston Police recently held a promotion ceremony. The department recognized the promotion of Cranston Police Officer Tremayne Paccasassi to Sergeant, following a swearing-in ceremony in the office of Cranston Mayor Kenneth Hopkins.

Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael J. Winquist and many of now-Sgt. Paccasassi’s colleagues attended.

Hopkins administered the oath of office and Paccasassi’s Aunt Anne pinned on his badge while many of his relatives across the country witnessed the ceremony via Zoom.

Sgt. Paccasassi joined the Cranston Police Department on July 16, 2012. Before joining the Cranston Police Department, he served five years as a correctional officer at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections.

He was assigned to the Patrol Division as an Acting Sergeant on the third shift. Paccasassi served as an acting supervisor from Nov. 1, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2022, and Jan. 30, 2023, to the present.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University in 2023. Paccasassi has attended a wide array of advanced training seminars. He consistently participates in community outreach events and activities, according to Cranston Police.

“Due to his work ethic and being a proactive police officer, in 2019, Col. Winquist selected him for a merit-based assignment to the department’s Special Investigations Unit,” according to a post on the department’s social media accounts. “Sgt. Paccasassi is also a Field Training Officer and a member of the department’s Underwater Recovery Team … Paccasassi also has volunteered to serve on the department’s recruitment team. He earned a Chief’s Letter of Recognition for executing a motor vehicle stop and developing probable cause for a search that resulted in the arrest of the operator and the seizure of ‘crack’ cocaine and drug paraphernalia indicative of illegal narcotics distribution.”

According to Cranston Police, “Paccasassi has received nine letters of appreciation from the public for being professional and competent when carrying out his duties while representing the Cranston Police Department.”

“He is reliable and has not used a single sick day over the past three years,” the CPD posted on social media. “Congratulations Sergeant on this well-deserved promotion. We wish you best of luck in the new position!”
