DOMESTIC ASSAULT & CHILD ABUSE

Around 11:30 p.m., Aug. 12, Cranston Police Officers arrested Geovanny Valdez Rodriguez, 23, of 590 Park Ave., Third Floor, Cranston, for domestic strangulation, domestic simple assault, domestic disorderly conduct, domestic failure to relinquish telephone, and second degree child abuse. The arrest was the result of the suspect turning himself into headquarters after a domestic violence investigation. According to Cranston Police, Rodriguez was awaiting arraignment.

WARRANT ARREST

At 5:38 p.m., Aug. 12, Cranston Police Officers took Jhanara Ramos, 21, of 99 Rugby St., Apt. H7, Providence, into custody for an arrest warrant from the Cumberland Police Department. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop at 7-Eleven, 535 Reservoir Ave. Ramos was later turned over to Cumberland Police, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC SIMPLE ASSAULT

Around 3:51 p.m., Aug. 10, Cranston Police Officers arrested Gabriel Garto, 20, of 73 First Ave., Apt. 1, Cranston, for one count of Domestic-Simple Assault/Battery and one count of Domestic-Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was the result of a previous incident, and subsequent Arrest & Affidavit Warrant pick-up by Jamestown Police. Garto was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and released.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 4:20 p.m., Aug. 10, Cranston Police Officers arrested Luis Vega Canales, 31, of 65 Regenti Ave., Apt. 1, Providence, for an active Superior Court Bench Warrant and an active 6th District Court Bench Warrant. The arrest was the result of a follow-up investigation at 99 Restaurant, 1171 New London Ave. Canales was transported to ACI Intake, according to Cranston Police.

WARRANT ARREST

At 11:21 p.m., Aug. 8, Cranston Police Officers arrested Roland Bernier, 40, of 234 Ausdale Road, Cranston, for two Third District Court bench warrants. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Carlsbad Street. Bernier was transported to ACI Intake, according to Cranston Police.

DRUG POSSESSION

At 9:03 a.m., Aug. 8, Cranston Police Officers arrested Richard Benoit, 38, of 627 Cranston St., Providence, for Possession Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (Under 10 grams, Fentanyl). The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Cranston Street. Benoit was transported to Third District Court, according to Cranston Police.

WARRANT ARREST

At 12:45 a.m., Aug. 8, Cranston Police Officers arrested Abel Pagan, 42, of 1013 Atwells Ave., No. 2, Providence, for a Superior Court Bench Warrant. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Terrace Avenue. Pagan was transported to Superior Court, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC DISORDERLY CONDUCT

At 10:52 p.m., Aug. 7, Cranston Police Officers arrested Kimberly Gesualdi, 60, of 14 Fruit St., Cranston, for Domestic Disorderly Conduct. Arrest is the result of a call for service at 14 Fruit St.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 5:30 p.m., Aug. 7, Cranston Police Officers arrested Alisa J. Robinson, 30, of 984 Providence St., West Warwick, for a bench warrant. The arrest was the result of a car stop on Dyer Avenue at Argyle Street. Robinson was transported to the ACI, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC SIMPLE ASSAULT

Around 9:50 a.m., Aug. 7, Cranston Police Officers arrested Nickoli Torrico, 41, of 218 Grosenor Ave., East Providence, for Domestic Simple Assault (“3rd/Greater” offense, according to Cranston Police). The arrest was the result of a call from Johnston Police “contacting us about an incident that occurred on Glenwood” Avenue, according to Cranston Police. Torrico was transported to Third District Court for arraignment.

OBSTRUCTING OFFICER

Around 12:30 p.m., Aug. 7, Cranston Police Officers arrested David Varin, 22, of 68 Chicory Lane, Cranston, for Obstructing Officer in Execution of Duty and Resisting Legal or Illegal Arrest. The arrest was the result of a suspicious activity call at 1308 Phenix Ave., according to Cranston Police. Varin was “given a release to appear and transported to the hospital for evaluation,” according to Cranston Police.

WEAPON OFFENSES

Around 1:34 p.m., Aug. 7, Cranston Police Detectives arrested John Phildor, 36, of 709 Union Ave., Providence, for Carrying a Weapon While Intoxicated and Firing in a Compact Area. The arrest was the result of Phildor “turning himself in” on an arrest and affidavit warrant at Third District Court, according to Cranston Police.

DRUG POSSESSION

At 1:39 a.m., Aug. 7, Cranston Police Officers arrested Miguel Rodriguez, 39, of 20 Sackett St., No. 1, Providence, for Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (first offense, under 10 grams of Fentanyl/Crack Cocaine). The arrest was the result of a traffic stop at 460 Reservoir Ave.

During the same traffic stop, Cranston Police Officers also arrested and charged Christi Ricci, 33, of 180 Waterman Ave., No. 3, North Providence, for Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (first offense, under 10 grams of Fentanyl/Crack Cocaine.

Rodriguez and Ricci were held overnight, awaiting morning arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 6 p.m., Aug. 6, Cranston Police Officers arrested Timothy Jordan, 30, of 67 Yorktown Road, North Kingstown, for a bench warrant. The arrest was the result of a car stop on Reservoir Avenue at Burnside Street, according to Cranston Police. Jordan was transported the ACI.

SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION

At 6:55 a.m., Aug. 6, Cranston Police Officers arrested Michael Shutt, 58, of 575 Dyer Ave., No. A11, Cranston, for Sexual Offender Registration Required. The arrest was the result of an arrest and affidavit warrant pickup at the aforementioned address. Shutt was transported to Third District Court for arraignment.

SHOPLIFTING

Around 7:23 p.m., Aug. 5, Cranston Police Officers arrested Williams S. Alexander, 67, of 485 Plainfield St., Providence, for one count of Shoplifting, a misdemeanor. The arrest was the result of a Larceny in Progress reported at Walmart, 1776 Plainfield Pike. Alexander was awaiting arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

NO CONTACT ORDER VIOLATION

Around 7:51 p.m., Aug. 5, Cranston Police Officers arrested Marcus D. Doyle, 29, of 192 Burdick Drive, Cranston, for one count of Violation-No Contact Order. The arrest was the result of a Court Order Violation investigation at the aforementioned address. According to Cranston Police, Doyle was awaiting arraignment as a Bail Violator.

WARRANT ARREST

At 4:14 p.m., Aug. 4, Cranston Police Officers arrested Xavier Rodriguez, 33, of 159 Greenley St., Providence, on an active Third District Court Bench Warrant. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop in the area of Wellington Avenue. Rodriguez was processed and transported to the ACI.

EMBEZZLEMENT

Around 8:05 a.m., Aug. 4, Cranston Police Officers arrested Robert Dorsi, 49, of 11 B St., Cranston, for Embezzlement/Fraudulent Conversion (over) $100. The arrest was the result of a subject turning himself in on an arrest and affidavit warrant, according to Cranston Police. Dorsi was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace.

DRUG POSSESSION

Around noon on Aug. 4, Cranston Police Officers arrested Michelle Myers, 35, of 11 B St., Cranston, for Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (under 10 grams), Resisting Legal or Illegal Arrest, and Obstructing Officer in Execution of Duty.

At the same time, Cranston Police Officers also arrested Jonathan Smith, 27, “of no particular address,” Cranston, for Possession of Schedule I-V (under 10 grams). The arrests were the result of a suspicious activity call in the area of 85 Garfield Ave. along the bike path.

Myers and Smith were both awaiting arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC SIMPLE ASSAULT

At 11:04 p.m., Aug. 3, Cranston Police Officers arrested Tyler Mclewin, 28, of 48 Chestnut Hill Ave., Apt. 2, Cranston, for Domestic Simple Assault, Domestic Vandalism and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was the result of a call for service at 48 Chestnut Hill Ave. Mclewin was arraigned by a Bail Commissioner and released.

DUI

At 11:10 p.m., Aug. 3, Cranston Police Officers arrested Mark Brown, 42, of 66 Delway Road, Cranston, for DUI of Liquor (BAC) unknown and cited for Refusal To Submit To a Chemical Test. The arrest was the result of a call for a motor vehicle crash on Delway Road. Brown was later arraigned by a Bail Commissioner and released.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Around 8 p.m., Aug. 3, Cranston Police Officers arrested David D. Pono, 53, of 141 Bretton Woods Drive, Cranston, for one count of Domestic Assault and one count of Domestic Disorderly Conduct.

At the same time, Cranston Police Officers also arrested Courtney A. Calenda, 38, of 25 Middleberry Lane, East Greenwich, for one count of Domestic Assault and one count of Domestic Disorderly Conduct.

The arrests were the result of a call for a physical disturbance at 141 Bretton Woods Drive. Pono and Calenda were both arraigned by a Bail Commissioner and released, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Around 7:37 p.m., Aug. 3, Cranston Police Officers arrested Brandon Danzer, 30, of 72 Clark Ave., Cranston, for one count of Domestic Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was the result of a disturbance call at 72 Clark Ave. Danzer was arraigned by a Bail Commissioner and released.

INDECENT MATERIAL

At 11:47 p.m., Aug. 2, Cranston Police Officers arrested Cesar Giron Mendez, 22, of 124 Hazelwood Ave., Apt. 3, Providence, for Domestic Disorderly Conduct and Unauthorized Dissemination of Indecent Material. The arrest was the result of a call for service at 103 Appleton St. Mendez was awaiting arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

DRUG POSSESSION

At 5:34 p.m., Aug. 2, Cranston Police Officers arrested Rodney Wilcox, 39, of 460 Pine St., Providence, for Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (less than 10 grams). The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Wellington Avenue. Wilcox was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and remanded to the ACI as a bail or probation violator, according to Cranston Police.

DRUG POSSESSION

Around 12:32 a.m., Aug. 2, Cranston Police Officers arrested Donald Forest, 41, of 180 Broad St., Providence, for Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (first offense, under 10 grams). The arrest was the result an officer-initiated contact of a suspicious person on the property of the Econo Lodge, 101 New London Ave. According to Cranston Police, Forest was awaiting arraignment.

VIOLATION OF A NO CONTACT ORDER

At 7:30 p.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Antonio Esparra, 34, of 441 Doric Ave., Cranston, for Violation of a No Contact Order (third or subsequent offense) and Larceny Under $1500, as a result of a traffic stop on Doric Avenue. Esparra was held for court as a Bail Violator, according to Cranston Police.

FELONY SHOPLIFTING

At 8:32 p.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Kobe Robinson, 23, of no known address for Felony Shoplifting as a result of a larceny complaint at Walgreens, 1010 Park Ave. Robinson was held for court as a “Bail and Probation Violator,” according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC SIMPLE ASSAULT

Around 8 a.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Thomas Maher, 46, of 134 Strawberry Field Road, Warwick, for Domestic Simple Assault, Domestic Disorderly Conduct, and Domestic Failure to Relinquish Telephone. The arrest was the result of a disturbance at 69 Fort Ave. Maher was transported to 3rd District Court for arraignment.

OBTAINING VEHICLES WITH INTENT TO DEFRAUD

Around 11 a.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Shawn Pelligrino, 46, of 6 Mercy St., Providence, for Obtaining Vehicles with Intent to Defraud. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop in the area of Laurel Hill Avenue and Bracken Street, and a subsequent arrest and affidavit warrant out of the Cranston Police Department. Pelligrino was transported to Third District Court for arraignment.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 1:20 p.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Richard Wilmot, 39, of 16 Angell St., West Warwick, for a parole board detention warrant out of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections. The arrest was the result of an assistance call to Warwick Police at Dunkin Donuts, 630 Reservoir Ave. Wilmot was transported to ACI Intake, according to Cranston Police.

PROTECTION ORDER VIOLATION

Around 1:38 p.m., Aug. 1, Cranston Police Officers arrested Jonathan Grice, 26, of 47 Burnside St., Providence, for Violation of a Protection Order. The arrest was the result of Providence Police turning Grice over to Cranston Police on a subsequent arrest and affidavit warrant out of the Cranston Police Department. Grice was transported to Third District Court for arraignment.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH

Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael J. Winquist announced “investigators from the department’s Traffic Unit continue to investigate a car-pedestrian crash that resulted in a fatality.”

Around 7:40 p.m., Aug. 9, Cranston Police Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a female pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle in front of 41 Strathmore Road.

Members of the Cranston Police and Fire Department responded and found an unresponsive woman lying at the end of the driveway of 41 Strathmore Road, according to a CPD press release.

“Rescue personnel attempted CPR and other lifesaving measures to no avail,” according to Cranston Police. “She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The woman is identified as Lundy Braun, age 77, of 47 Strathmore Road.”

The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Pawtucket, and a passenger, remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to Cranston Police.

“She advised that she was backing out of the driveway after visiting 41 Strathmore and did not realize anyone was behind her before she felt the impact,” according to Cranston Police. “When she exited her vehicle, she realized she had struck a person and immediately ran to a nearby residence to summon medical aid. Officers noted the driver showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment.”

The vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Highlander, was towed to the Cranston Police Department for further examination. The driver was released with no charges, “at this time,” according to Cranston Police.

“Mrs. Braun frequently walked in the area and was struck near her residence,” police said in the press release. “The exact cause of the crash has yet to be determined.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Braun’s family as they deal with this tragic event, as well with the driver and passenger, who were obviously extremely distraught,” Col. Winquist said.
