Rita H. O’Neill, RN., 87, of Warwick, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Mary (Cusick) O’Neill.
Rita began her education with St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She continued her education, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College, and later her Master of Science in Nursing from Boston University. She shared her experiences and touched the lives of many students making their way into the healthcare industry as a devoted Nursing Professor. She previously worked with students enrolled in nursing programs with St. Joseph’s, URI, and completed her 30 years as a Professor with UMASS, prior to her retirement.
In her downtime, she enjoyed traveling and going on cruises, taking trips to Ireland, Italy, and all over Europe.
She is survived by her brother, James O’Neill and his wife Terrie; sister Mary Girasole and her husband Michael; nieces and nephews, Joseph Porrazzo, Lisa Leveille, and James, Thomas, and Danielle O’Neill; dear friends, Marita McGowen, and Carol Lorden; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join her Funeral Service on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 9:30AM from the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave, Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM, in St. Kevin Church, Warwick. Visitation in the Funeral Home will be held prior from 8:30-9:30AM.
