The Johnston baseball team bounced back from its playoff opening loss to East Providence by beating Burrillville 6-5 the following round. Unfortunately, the Panthers would drop a tough 5-2 decision to the Townies on their turf to be eliminated from the Division II postseason.
Chris Civetti, Matt Clements, Steven Finegan and Davian Nunez all drove in runs against Burrillville, with Civetti getting three hits. Ethan Bracey got the win on the mound, tossing two innings and allowing no runs. Dylan Guernon got five innings of work and struck out four batters in the win.
Finegan led the way on offense against the Townies in the rematch, picking up an RBI on two hits while Civetti drove in another run. Emmanuel Rios pitched six innings and finished the day with eight strikeouts.
The Johnston boys volleyball team’s bid for a three-peat came to a close in the opening round of the Division III playoffs on Monday when Central Falls pulled off the 3-0 sweep. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 12-5 record, finishing in seventh place in the crowded DIII bracket.
