Inman, Richard E.

Posted

On August 18th, Richard E. Inman, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his devoted family.

The son of John and Grace Inman, Richard grew up in Warwick. In his youth, he worked in various capacities at the family-owned Duby’s Grove event venue. After graduating high school, he briefly attended Our Lady of Providence Seminary. From there he went on to attend and graduate from Belmont Abbey in North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in history. Later he earned his masters degree in administration from Providence College. Richard retired in 1997 from his beloved Aldrich Junior High School in Warwick, after 30+ years as a science teacher and department head.

After returning from college, Richard met his true love, Nancy. Once married they lived in Warwick for nearly 30 years, where they raised their three children. In 1993 Narragansett became their Rhode Island home. They were “snowbirds,” spending part of the year in Vero Beach, Florida playing golf and making new friends.

Richard was an avid reader of local history. He was a patient listener and a teacher throughout his life. Dependable and handy, he enjoyed puttering around the house and was always available to help with a project. Known and appreciated for his quick wit, Richard seldom missed an opportunity for a good-natured jest. A nod to his youth, Richard loved baking, especially his highly regarded Irish Bread, and cooking his dear mother’s recipes for clam cakes, chowder, and stuffies. His parties were much enjoyed and anticipated. He graciously hosted many gatherings on his deck in the company of family or valued friends and neighbors. Partaking in interesting conversation led to many good times and laughs for all.

Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy, as well as his cherished children David (Laurie Strauss-Inman), Kerry, and Kristen. Jonathan and Melanie were his adored grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace (Duby), a sister Joan Amaral and a brother David A. Inman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10:00 am in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St., Narragansett, RI. Visitation will be held Friday, August 23rd from 4-6 pm in the Avery Storti Funeral Home 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Holy Family Home, 5 Gibbs St., North Providence, RI 02904.
