Robert G. Del Ponte, age 84, passed away in the early morning of Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Dianne M. (Lathrop) Del Ponte to whom he shared almost 49 years of marriage. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Rosina (Marfeo) Del Ponte.
Robert worked for many years as a jewelry manufacturer for his family’s company, Calco Manufacturing until his retirement when he went on to work for the RI Lottery. He had a quiet and calm presence about him, until it came to talking about his beloved New York Yankees or politics. He enjoyed collecting minted coins, playing a round of golf with his friends and in his younger years, bowling in the Meadowbrook bowling league. Robert loved spending time with family and friends and enjoying a good Italian meal. He also loved to travel.
He was the devoted father of Robyn Neary (husband, Brian) and Kristin Del Ponte; cherished ‘Grampa’ to Brynn and Brenyn; uncle of Patrice Del Ponte. Robert was the brother of the late Joseph Del Ponte. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 10am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Ss. Rose & Clement Church, 111 Long St., Warwick. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 4-7pm.
