CWLL 11’s win district title

The Cranston Western 11-U All-Star team defeated North Providence 8-1 on Monday to win the District I Championship.

Pitcher Brooklyn Bank was lights-out for CWLL, tossing five innings and allowing no earned runs while racking up eight strikeouts. Max Conte struck out the side in his one inning of relief.

Roberto Pereya led the way at the dish with a pair of RBI while Conte, Brayden Leveillee, Will Moretta, Camden Sears and Jacoby Hawksley also drove in runs.

North Providence drove in its lone run in the first inning and held CWLL scoreless until the third. The CWLL bats took off from there, though, as they rolled to the title.

“They were extremely excited to move on. Our theme has been that we try to play everything pitch by pitch, play by play, and just keep going. Play how we want to play and stay in it. We’ve been able to do that. We knew eventually we’d break through,” said CWLL manager John Moretta, who also credited Bank’s night on the mound. “He was phenomenal. He gave us five really good innings which was impressive since he had a tough first inning and threw 27 pitches. Then Max Conte came in and closed it out. I can’t say enough about them.”

The 11’s won the district and state championship as 10’s last summer and return much of the same roster. That experience has helped them start off strong this summer, according to Moretta.

“It’s big. They kind of know what lies ahead of them. They’re really excited about the (state tournament) this weekend,” Moretta said.

The CWLL 12’s are still in the thick of their district tournament and rolled past crosstown rival Cranston East 16-2 last week. Nolan Winters had a monster outing at the plate, driving in four runs. Nick Delngenis and Johnny Martinez also got into the mix with three RBI each while Aydenn Reyes also knocked in a pair.

Reyes, JJ Hamilton and Logan Saraiva combined for four strikeouts on the mound and allowing just two runs.

The CWLL 10’s cruised to a 16-1 win over Johnston on Monday to also remain firmly in the district race.

Naz Benzan, Devan Neri, Kenny Hopkins, Alex Fecteau, Colten Pelagalli and Paul Okolowitcz all had multi-RBI days at the dish. Pelagalli and Fecteau combined for two strikeouts and one run allowed on the mound.
