It is never too late for a sequel, even if most of the audience wasn’t born when the original was released.
Tim Burton’s macabre mind again works overtime in this weird look at the strange creature who appears when you say his name three times.
Michael Keaton reprises the role, and he is as good as ever, even if he is not given enough time on screen to do his thing.
This time around three generations of women return to the eerie house that Beetlejuice haunted.
Winona Ryder returns as the mother of a doubting daughter, who can’t accept her mother hosting a paranormal TV show.
The plot gets a bit muddled at times as Beetlejuice becomes both the predator and the prey.
There are great special effects and fascinating characters, including a woman who returns from the afterlife by stitching her body back together, and the adorable Bob.
The movie takes us to the weird world of the afterlife and finally to a church where a bizarre marriage is about to take place, while in the background “MacArthur Park” is blasted out. The strange line “someone left the cake out in the rain” is given new interpretation as the movie concludes in complete chaos.
While not as good as the original, but better than the Broadway musical, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is fun to watch with all the fascinating characters and special effects.
Just don’t try to make any sense out of it.
