Welcome back at St. Rocco’s

St. Rocco School will hold its “Welcome Back” Family BBQ Aug. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. under the tent behind St. Rocco’s. Parking is located across from church; enter from rectory side. Join St. Rocco’s for hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, watermelon, lemonade and home-baked desserts. There will be music and dancing courtesy of Music Express.
Admission is free for students and children under 5 and $10 per adult. This is a family event and an adult must accompany all students. For more information contact 944-2993 by Aug. 12.
Registration forms are also available at the school office, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon daily.

Ride along with Taso’s

The Johnston Community Center Association, in conjunction with Taso’s, will hold Taso’s Motorcycle Run and Car Show fundraiser this Sunday, Aug. 7. Admission is $25 and will include a gourmet lunch from Taso’s and an event t-shirt. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the ride leaves at 11 a.m. A rain date of Aug. 14 has been scheduled.

News from Villa at St. Antoine


The Villa at Saint Antoine, located at 400 Mendon Rd. in North Smithfield, invites the public to join them for concerts in the courtyard held on Tuesday, August 9 at 7 p.m., featuring Frank Castle and the Dixie Kings, a lively big band group.
Also on Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug.19 and Aug 26, the Villa will offer tours of their facility to the public. The Villa at St. Antoine offers quality assisted living, memory loss care and a campus where a continuum of care is available. Victory Day celebration

As in years past, members of the Graniteville World War II Veterans Foundation will be on hand to celebrate Victory Day on Aug. 13 at the Graniteville War Memorial on Putnam Pike, starting at 11:30 a.m.

Make today your “DDay” with Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’ Donuts is going to make you a star with “Today’s My DDay,” a local billboard campaign that encourages Dunkin’ Donuts’ customers to snap a photo of themselves enjoying their favorite Dunkin’ beverage for the chance to be a star.
Now through Sept. 2, customers can upload their photos to www.yourprov.com for the chance to win a spot on a local digital billboard highlighting their “DDay” and a $50 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card. Each day, Dunkin’ Donuts and yourprov.com will choose one entrant’s photo to become the billboard picture on six billboards throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. St. Rocco’s Feast

St. Rocco Church will hold its annual Feast of St. Rocco on Aug. 18 through 21 on the church grounds. There will be plenty of family fun with amusements, food, beverages, entertainment and more.

CVS Caremark/Cranston Senior Games

Registration is underway for the Sept. 24 CVS Caremark/Cranston Senior Games to be held, for the most part, at Cranston High School West beginning Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. with opening ceremonies. The games provide Rhode Islanders age 55 and older the opportunity to compete in many events, including bocce, horseshoes, bowling, track and field, swimming, tennis, golf and cycling.
Registration forms are now available at Cranston Senior Services, located at 1070 Cranston St., or you may contact the Senior Center at 780-6000 to have one mailed to you. Registration fees, which include a polo shirt, goodie bag, breakfast, lunch and a banquet is $15 per person. Golf registration is $50.
This year marks the 17th year of the Senior Games in Cranston.

August has two birthstones, PERIDOT AND SARDONYX. Peridot is among the oldest known gemstones. It ranges from olive to lime green, sometimes with a brownish tinge. Sardonyx is a gem with white and brown bands and it is believed to have mystical powers; it eliminates negative thinking.
