LARCENY OVER $10,000

Around 10:52 p.m., Oct. 17, 2023, Warwick Police responded to UPS, at 150 Plan Way for the report of a past larceny by an employee.

A facility supervisor told police that the previous Friday it was brought to his attention that 11 iPhones received by the company had been stolen.

Police were informed that an employee identified as Ashly L. Brown, 19, of 65 Hilarity St., Apt. 2, Providence, was spotted leaving a women’s restroom where footprints were found on the toilet seat “as if someone was standing on it.” Security was informed and they found 11 iPhone boxes “stuffed up into the ceiling over the stall,” according to the incident report.

After checking video surveillance, security cross referenced the package tracking numbers on the boxes to the dates they were received by the company.

Brown works as a “pre loader” in the receiving line.

“As other employees receive product in she sorts it on the assembly belt line and loads them into the appropriate truck,” according to police. “On the dates that all the hidden packages were received in, Ashly was working.”

The site’s security supervisor called Brown after she left work, and gave her the chance to return the phones. She allegedly told security that she would return the products, but she did not (and did not answer further phone calls).

According to police, each iPhone cost $1,500. UPS estimated the total loss at $16,500. Based on the gathered evidence, Brown was charged with a felony charge of Larceny (over $10,000).

On July 18 of this year, Rhode Island State Police turned custody of Brown over to Warwick Police.

DUI

Around 6:49 p.m., July 22, Warwick Police were dispatched to the area of West Shore Road and Oakland Beach Avenue for the report of a black scooter operating erratically. A witness told police that the scooter was “occupied by a mole operator and female passenger,” according to the arrest report.

Police located the scooter and followed it from a distance.

“I observed the scooter turn left onto Holt Street along with the reporting party behind,” Warwick Police officer Frank P. Matarese wrote in the arrest report.

Police found the scooter parked at the corner of Holt Street and Pequot Avenue. The man was sitting on the scooter and the woman was now standing next to the scooter.

The scooter had no license plate, according to police. The driver of the scooter told police he had no license. Police identified the male suspect as Edward K. Peckham, 62, of 46 Pine St., Apt. 220, Providence.

“While speaking with the male, I observed him to have bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath,” Matarese wrote.

The scooter driver handed police paperwork and told them he had just purchased the scooter, and had not had the chance to register the vehicle. He told police he was coming from West Warwick and had “two shots of vodka,” according to the arrest report.

A witness told police that he was traveling down West Shore Road when he spotted the scooter “travel through the red light at Long Street, almost striking another vehicle.” The scooter allegedly traveled in and out of the breakdown lane and eventually pulled into Haxton Liquors, at 2334 West Shore Road.

Peckham was asked to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He consented. Following the tests, he was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, first offense), and cited for Driving with Suspended/Revoked/Canceled License (fourth or greater offense; a misdemeanor) and Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (first offense).

STOLEN VEHICLE & DUI

Around 10:09 a.m., July 24, Warwick Police located a vehicle that “was possibly involved in a hit and run motor vehicle” crash and initiated a traffic stop on Seminole Street, near the intersection with Mohawk Avenue.

Police identified the driver as Crystal L. Palardy, 37, of 460 Pine St., Providence. Police suspected Palardy was “potentially under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs.”

Police noted that Palardy “had extremely slurred speech” and was not wearing pants or underwear, but instead wore just a large flannel shirt.

“Upon Palardy searching for pants in her trunk, I observed a nearly empty open container of a 750ml bottle of vodka,” according to the arrest report.

Police asked Palardy to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. She consented. Following the tests, she was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, a felony), DUI of Liquor/Drugs-Operate Vehicle Suspended (a felony), Possession of Stolen Vehicle (first offense; a felony), Driving after Denial/Revocation/Suspension of License (a misdemeanor) and cited for Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (first offense). Police found out the vehicle had been reported stolen after the vehicle stop and arrest.

REPORTED SHOTS FIRED

Around 7:52 p.m., Aug. 31, witnesses called Warwick Police to report gunshots inside a movie theater at the Apple Cinemas, Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road.

Warwick Police responded to the scene.

“The theater was evacuated and an interior search was conducted,” according to police. “There was no evidence of gunfire inside the building. There were no reported injuries to the involved witnesses. Parties were allowed to re-enter the building shortly thereafter.”

Police searched outside the building and found “evidence of spent fireworks along the side of the cinema building.”

“Through their investigation, officers located an adult male suspect in the vicinity of the building who was questioned and admitted to setting off aerial-type fireworks in the area,” according to police.

Police identified the suspect as Justin M. Crespo, 27 (no address provided by police). Crespo was subsequently charged with Possession of Display and Aerial Consumer Fireworks and released with a 3rd District Court date.

FUGITIVE APPREHENSION

Around 9:49 p.m., Aug. 28, Cranston Police Officers arrested Timothy Coll, 44, of 22 St. Mary St., West Warwick, for two Superior Court bench warrants and a Fugitive from Justice Warrant, according to police. The arrest was the result of a call for service at Garrett’s Family Market, 1036 Reservoir Ave. He was transported to Superior Court.
