LARCENY

Around 8:25 a.m., June 10, Warwick Police took a Johnston man into custody for an alleged May larceny at BJ’s.

On May 30, Warwick Police responded to BJ’s Market, 375 East Ave., for the report of a larceny. The caller told police that he shopped at the store, used the self checkout line and left his cell phone behind at the register.

“He placed his phone down while an employee was speaking to him and forgot to pick it up as he left the store,” Warwick Police Officer Jackson A. Acciaioli wrote in the incident report. “He recognized his phone was missing as he pulled out of his parking spot and immediately went back into the store to find it.”

He spoke to BJ’s loss prevention supervisor, who checked security footage to see what happened to the customer’s phone. On the footage, according to police, a couple walked into the checkout line after the phone owner walked away, and the male allegedly grabbed the phone and placed it in his pocket before walking out the store.

The victim told police the phone was valued around $1,000.

The store gave police “very clear footage of the incident.”

“The male picks up the phone and motions to the female that he had found a phone,” Acciaioli wrote. “He smirks and nods his head before placing the phone in his pocket; the female smiled as well as she watched him place the phone into his pocket.”

The store provided the license plate information for the vehicle in which the couple left the store, a white 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Police ran vehicle owner’s name through the BJ’s membership list, and eventually identified Jayson T. Almonte, 36, of 68 Cedar St., Johnston, as the suspect.

The issued a warrant for Almonte’s arrest. On June 10, he turned himself in at Warwick Police Headquarters. Almonte was charged with Larceny (less than $1,500). He was fingerprinted, photographed, given a Third District court summons and released.

SHOPLIFTING

Around 4:30 p.m., June 8, Warwick Police were dispatched to Ulta Beauty, at 1245 Bald Hill Road, for the “report of a shoplifting in progress.”

A store employee told police that the suspect, a “female wearing a black top and white pants had stolen approximately $500 worth of high end cosmetics,” according to the arrest report.

Meanwhile, another Warwick Police officer had stopped a vehicle nearby that police said was driven by the suspect. Police identified the suspect as Meaghan E. Dube, 44, of 17 Tanglewood Court, Apt. 15, West Warwick.

A criminal background check revealed Dube had four active bench warrants, according to police.

Store employees estimated the value of the stolen goods at $388. Management told police they wanted to press criminal charges.

“The stolen property was found inside Dube’s vehicle and was returned to Ulta Beauty,” wrote Warwick Police Officer Yadira Allen.

Dube was arrested and charged with Shoplifting (greater than $100, second offense). She was also notified of a No Trespass Order from the Ulta store. Dube was arraigned by the bail commissioner and transported to the ACI/Women’s Intake.

DUI

Around 1 a.m., June 8, a Warwick Police officer on routine patrol northbound on Greenwich Avenue spotted a vehicle coming on from “behind at a high rate of speed.”

“The traffic light at the intersection of Greenwich Avenue and Crossings Boulevard was a steady red, and I stopped in the left lane,” Warwick Police Officer Matthew Maloney wrote in the arrest report. “The same vehicle … proceeded through the steady red light in the right lane at a high rate of speed ...”

Maloney initiated a traffic stop.

“Immediately prior to notifying dispatch of my attempt to stop the vehicle, (dispatch) notified me they had received a call about a vehicle matching this description speeding northbound on Post Road,” Maloney wrote. “Dispatch also advised me this vehicle almost struck the caller’s vehicle.”

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado came to a stop in an abandoned lot at 692 Greenwich Ave.

Police identified the driver as Christopher L. Reynolds, 31, of 2 Michael Court, Coventry. He had two passengers in the truck.

Police asked Reynolds to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He agreed. Following the tests, he was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (blood alcohol concentration unknown, first offense). He was transported to Warwick Police Headquarters where he refused a chemical breath test. Reynolds was also cited for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense) and Obedience to Traffic Control Devices.

MISDEMEANOR SUSPENDED LICENSE

Around 5:19 p.m., May 31, Warwick Police Officer Connor R. Bemis was at a fixed traffic post across from Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard when he spotted a grey Dodge pass with an expired registration. According to the arrest report, the expired registration was shown to be suspended on a blue Toyota as of 2019.

Bemis initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Angel A. Colon Vega, 25, of 501 Reservoir Ave., Apt. 13, Cranston. According to police, the driver’s license had been suspended under the Colin B. Foote Act, a Rhode Island state law that levies higher penalties for repeat traffic violations.

The driver was arrested and charged with Driving after Denial/Revocation/Suspension for Certain Violations (first offense; a misdemeanor). He was transported to Warwick Police Headquarters and later released without incident.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH

Around 9:13 p.m., July 3, Warwick Police were dispatched to the intersection of Warwick Avenue and Edgehill Road for the report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

A silver Toyota Camry and a Honda CBR600 motorcycle were involved in the crash. The operator of the motorcycle suffered significant injuries due to the crash, despite wearing a helmet, according to police.

Police said the motorcycle operator was traveling southbound on Warwick Avenue at a high rate of speed as he approached the intersection of Edgehill Road. The female driver of a silver sedan was traveling north on Warwick Avenue, attempting to take a left turn onto Edgehill Road as the motorcycle entered the intersection, according to Warwick Police.

The male operator of the motorcycle was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Warwick Fire Department Rescue personnel with a laceration to the head and other significant injuries.

At this time, the male is in critical condition. The female operator of the silver sedan was also transported to receive additional medical treatment for minor injuries received as a result of the crash.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the cause of this crash. Other factors are still being investigated.
