DRUG CHARGES

Around 7:25 p.m., Warwick Police Officer Connor R. Bemis was on a fixed traffic post near the intersection of Post Road and the Airport Connector when he spotted a red Jeep travel past and a passenger in the back seat was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.

Bemis initiated a traffic stop.

“It should be noted the vehicle took an extended period of time to stop, and at one point completely stopped in the low speed lane,” Bemis wrote in the arrest report.

He identified the driver as Sarah E. Beausoleil, 30, of 5 Clark Mill St., Coventry. According to police,  Beausoleil was “digging at a purse in between her legs as” they spoke.

Police identified Beausoleil from her ACI discharge card. Her hands were “clearly trembling” as they spoke, and she displayed “obvious nervous behavior.”

According to police, a passenger in the Jeep, identified as David J. Dahlin, 42, of Coventry, had an active Superior Court Bench Warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police say they also spotted a crack pipe in plain view in the passenger side door panel. Police eventually searched Beausoleil’s large purse. Inside they allegedly found a “large amount of hypodermic needles, and various drug paraphernalia” as well as “a small black zipper bag, which inside contained a tied off glassine plastic baggie … (of) suspected psilocybin. The driver allegedly identified the substance as “mushrooms.”

Back at Warwick Police Department, the substance tested positive for psilocybin and weighed 2.3 grams. Beausoleil was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (10 Grams or less) and cited for Driving on a Suspended License (first offense) and No Seatbelt-Passenger.

Around midnight May 31, Warwick Police spotted a vehicle exiting the off ramp onto Post Road northbound “at a high rate of speed.”

Warwick Police Officer Charles M. Walker was on routine patrol traveling around 45 miles per hour on Post Road when another driver passed his cruiser on the right. Walker initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Rafael Antonio Rodriguez, 43, of 280 Ohio Ave., Providence.

Walker ran a check and found Rodriguez’s license was suspended.

“Rodriguez stated that he had a letter form a judge, indicating that he is allowed to drive,” Walker wrote in the arrest report. “He provided me with the document, which was identified as a hardship license letter from the court, which indicates that Rodriguez is allowed to drive to and from work in Norwood (Mass.).”

The driver allegedly told police he was coming from Wendy’s fast food restaurant. Police investigated and determined that he had left work around 7 p.m., about 5 hours earlier.

“He was advised that he is only to operate his vehicle to and from work,” Walker wrote.

Police determined it would be the driver’s fourth offense for Driving with a Suspended License. He was arrested and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters. A licensed passenger in the vehicle drove it from the scene.

Rodriguez was charged with Driving with Suspended License (fourth offense, a misdemeanor). He was also cited for speeding.
