Pilgrim swept Toll Gate 2-0 last week during a home-and-home Division I baseball series on Thursday and Saturday.

On Thursday, the Pats used a nine-run second inning to beat the Titans 9-2 at Pilgrim, and on Saturday, the Pats scored four runs in the fourth frame and blanked the Titans 4-0 at Warwick Vets.

“We scored in two innings out of 14 innings of baseball,” Landy said. “It’s not ideal, but we’ll take the victories. One game at a time and keep the ball rolling.”

Seniors DJ Sollitto and Aaron Narcavage led the Pats offense on Thursday with two hits and two RBI each. Narcavage also contributed a stolen base.

Sophomore Jeremie Luna topped the Titans with two hits while Matt Colvin, a senior, added a double, a walk, plus an RBI.

Jack McConnell, a sophomore, toed the rubber for Pilgrim in the first game and struck out six over six innings of work while yielding two earned runs on five hits with four walks.

Brayden Ogden, also a sophomore, started on the bump for Toll Gate, but lasted just 1.1 innings, after giving up nine runs (seven earned) in the second inning on five hits, two walks, and two hit batsmen.

“My pitcher who’s typically been really good, he couldn’t get the feel for it in the second inning,” Titans head coach Nick Durand said. “He went 1-2-3 in the first, and then couldn’t get out of the second inning. Hit a couple guys, walked a couple guys, a couple base hits and that was it.”

On Saturday, Pilgrim junior Colby Barker pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out six.

“He threw the ball very well,” Landy said. “Colby is the leader of the staff right now. This is his second complete game, I believe. He throws strikes. He throws his off-speed pitches for strikes and he was good today.”

Barker gave up just two hits on the day while walking three.

Those two hits came from Andrew Wheeler, a senior, and Dylan Perreault, a sophomore. Perreault also added a stolen base.

Senior Dylan Bourret led the Pats offense with three hits and one RBI, and Dylan Roberts, a sophomore, added two hits plus an RBI.

Brayden Alder-Maranhao, a sophomore, took the ball for Toll Gate and tossed a complete-game with one strikeout.

“Our pitcher played well today,” Durand said. “He pitched well, threw strikes. He’s been good for us all year. They just made a couple more plays than we did today.”

Sean Gallagher led off the fourth frame with a double to deep center field.

Next, Barker clubbed a soft single down the third base line, which put runners at the corners.

Then, McConnell grounded out to short, which knocked in Gallagher from third, and gave Pilgrim a 1-0 advantage.

Next, Mark Woods shot a rocket to shallow center field, at Perreault, which should have been a routine fly ball, but Perreault dropped the ball when he landed in a divot, and that allowed Barker to come home, making it 2-0.

Then, with runners at second and third, Narcavage blasted a single to center, which drove in Camden Nadeau and extended the Pats cushion to 3-0.

Lastly, Dylan Roberts socked an RBI single through the middle and scored Woods from third and increased the Pilgrim buffer to 4-0.

The Titans best chance to score in the contest came in the second inning when Barker walked the two first batters in Zach Scotti and Devyn Robbins.

However, Zach DeCorpo popped out to the pitcher during a bunt attempt, and then Alder-Maranhao grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

“There was one inning, we had nobody out, two on, and we didn’t lay down a bunt,” Durand said. “We just didn’t make enough plays at the plate. Not too many good at-bats today.”

Toll Gate fell to 3-7 with the loss and hosted Cranston West (5-4) on Wednesday. The Titans will play the Falcons again at Cranston West on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Pilgrim improved its record to 7-1 and sits atop Division I-A. The Pats played again on Wednesday at Smithfield (1-7). The Pats will play the Sentinels again on Saturday when they host Smithfield at 4 p.m.
