Alan Shawn Feinstein, a Cranston resident and noted philanthropist, made a special visit to Nicholas A. Ferri Middle School on Tuesday morning.

Feinstein, who has a foundation and several schools named in his honor, presented Ferri Principal Dennis Morrell with a check for $1,000.

Back in November 2015, Ferri entered a special food drive competition that Feinstein runs throughout Rhode Island.

“We collected over 1,000 items for the food drive,” said Lisa Hunt, a Ferri teacher who coordinated the local drive. “Mr. Feinstein gave our school a check [for $1,000] and awarded each student with a Feinstein Junior Scholar card that allows free admission to multiple youth-oriented places.”

Feinstein used the school’s television system thank the students for their food donation.

“We are very proud of all the students that made our food drive such an overwhelming success,” Hunt said. “We are equally thrilled that Ferri Middle School was among the top three schools that participated in the food drive.”
