The Cranston Western-CLCF Gals softball teams won their respective state championships last week to punch their tickets to regionals.

The 12’s rolled throughout their tournament and beat Tiverton in a 12-0 shutout last week on the road to clinch the title. Pitcher Isabella Marcano was lights out for CWLL-CLCF, striking out nine batters while only allowing one hit.

Ella Lamarre, Alexa Okolowitz and Adriana Garcia drove in RBI while Olivia Graziano and Lawson Bastia crossed home.

CWLL-CLCF was dominant all tournament, getting two previous wins by a combined score of 18-2 prior to the state title game.

“It was great and it boosted our confidence. The last few games score-wise was good for us in bringing up our confidence going to the regionals,” said coach Lalo Marcano, who credited his players’ big game experience in helping them cruise throughout the bracket. “A lot of these girls have played for awhile now and have played in bigger tournaments. They have polished skills and we are confident in their level of play which helps out in these moments.”

Hard work and a versatile lineup has led the team to taking another step forward this summer as a group, according to Lalo Marcano.

“We have two pitchers that could be number 1’s on any other team. We can use them based on who we play, we can use them any given day which helps a lot. A lot of these girls have worked really hard and improved themselves a lot the last four years. It shows now. They all have the ability to play ball,” Marcano said.

After beating Connecticut 13-3 in the opening round of regionals, the 12’s rolled past Maine 11-0 on Monday.

Graziano tossed four innings in the circle, allowing no runs on just three hits. Okolowitz and Laila Murphy each knocked in two runs to pace the offense.

As the team continues to shine in the circle and at the dish, Lalo Marcano believes that the team’s ceiling will be determined by its poise and defensive performance.

“It’s about confidence. All these girls can hit and we can pitch. Our defense is going to be one of the things, if we play defense then it is going to be much easier to navigate. If our defense works out, that will definitely be good for us,” Marcano said.

The 10’s also won their state championship, beating Cumberland 15-1 in the championship game at home.

Aubrey Riker got the win in the circle for CWLL-CLCF, allowing just one run while picking up 14 strikeouts. Riker helped her own cause by driving in two RBI while Genevieve Earls, Yariana Girón and Chloe Whittenberger also drove in runs.

The 10’s regional tournament will begin on Aug. 1 in Staten Island.

The 12’s roster includes: Isabella Marcano, Ella Lamarre, Hailee Stinson, Olivia Graziano, Alexa Okolowitcz, Lawson Bastia, Annabella Olobri, Lylah Riley, Juliana Borges, Laila Murphy, Mia Viera, Audriana Garcia.
