Cascella steps down as city GOP chairman

Posted

Following an inappropriate post on Facebook, which was quickly taken down, Richard Cascella has stepped down as chair of the Republican City Committee.  Vice chair Jeanne Trafford has been elected chair.

In a telephone interview Tuesday, Cascella said he was out with a bunch of friends when, as a “practical joke,” he posted the comment.

“It was a stupid prank and now I’m on the hot seat,” said Cascella.

He said he thought of staying on as chair, a job he has held for four years, but then considered a “reset” of the leadership would be best.

Cascella is proud of his record as chair, noting that when he assumed the office there was only a handful of active members and now there are 25 to 40 and the party has a Facebook page with more than 500 friends. He said the party has candidates for most of the Warwick House and Senate seats.  That’s not the case for City Council where Ryan Kelly in Ward 4 is the only Republican Council candidate.

“It’s better that I’m getting off the radar,” he said. Nonetheless, Cascella said he would work to get Republicans elected and plans to be active in the party.

“It’s a breath of fresh air,” he said.

Casella, GOP

I am confused by Mr. Cascella's "explanation" of what transpired on FB. The night of his posting, I demanded that he resign from his Warwick GOP position due to his FB post. Several hours later, Mr. Cascella posted on FB that he had been hacked! Now, according to his statement to the Warwick Beacon, "Cascella said he was out with a bunch of friends when, as a “practical joke,” he posted the comment.

“It was a stupid prank and now I’m on the hot seat,” said Cascella."

So, Mr. Cascella, what is the truth? You got hacked? Practical joke? Stupid prank? Or is there another truth you would like to tell us?

I believe the best thing you could do for the Republican party in Warwick is to be a spectator and not a participant. Your involvement could be more of a distraction and hindrance than a benefit.
