Antique auction to be held at former restaurant

The Little Inn, which was once famous for its fine wines, fireside dining and private function rooms, will be the site of an antique auction on April 3.

“It’s really sad that the place is closed,” said Anthony Ursillo, a member of the neighboring Johnston Historical Society’s Board of Directors. “I frequented the restaurant. They always had great food.”

Ursillo, a one-time Johnston business owner and noted speaker, added: “The Little Inn was certainly well-furnished and decorated; there were a lot of valuable antiques inside that restaurant.”

Beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, people can register for the auction, which will be conducted by Briarbrook Estate Auctions & Appraisals Inc. of East Greenwich.

Nanci Thompson, who has a Rhode Island auction license and conducts antique auctions at The Varnum Armory at 6 Main Street in downtown in East Greenwich, is the owner and operator of Briarbook. Those who’d like more information should call 401-439-2346.

The Little Inn – which for more than 40 years was owned and operated by the Russo family, and developed a reputation for serving the finest and freshest seasonal foods in Rhode Island – is no longer in operation as an eatery. However, the building still stands at 103 Putnam Pike (Route 44) in Johnston.

“The lounge and dining room were both well-appointed and featured lots of classic antiques,” Ursillo said. “The Russo family had quite the great and vibrant restaurant for the entire life of The Little Inn. I already miss the place dearly.”
