26th Rhythm & Roots Festival ‘keeps the vibe alive’ with dozens of diverse artists

The 26th Rhythm & Roots Festival impressive lineup features established roots artists and emerging acts who represent the diverse musical genres that fans have come to expect.

This year, the first festival following the passing of longtime producer and partner Chuck Wentworth, the GoodWorks Entertainment team will “keep the vibe alive” and honor his legacy through the music of some of his favorite artists including the Billboard Century Award recipient, Emmylou Harris.

Harris will headline Saturday, Aug. 31 and be joined by Nashville’s organic rock/country band “Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country” on Friday, Aug. 30 and the Grammy nominated “Old Crow Medicine Show” (“Wagon Wheel”) on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Joining the headliners are soul rockers “Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds” on Friday, roots sister act “Larkin Poe,” New Orleans institution “Rebirth Brass Band” on Saturday, southern country rockers “Drive-by Truckers” and indie folk artists “The Strumbellas” on Sunday. These artists make up a fraction of the music available, with South County’s own folk-inspired singer-songwriter Will Evans joining more than a dozen others performing over Labor Day weekend. Rhythm & Roots music will be performed on three stages – the main Rhythm stage with standing room and lawn seating, and the tented Roots and Dance stages.

Attendees are encouraged to enjoy the park’s 227 acres that include a swimming pond with public beach, playground, disc golf, tennis, basketball and walking trails, complete with newly installed massive wooden trolls that defy description. Admission for children under 12 is free.

The festival also offers crafts from local artisans, more than a dozen food vendors, beer and wine, and a massive dance floor that draws dancers from around the country. The festival attracts over 5,000 daily visitors to the grassy, seaside Ninigret Park, including 1,500 weekend campers.

Festival grounds open at 4 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
