IDITAROD OF GARDENING: Steve Sperry shows off his final harvest of the year, soon to be known as the Sperry XXXX (the X’s will be replaced by the pumpkin’s weight, after this weekend’s Rhode Island state weigh-in). The gargantuan gourd is estimated to weigh well over 2,000 pounds. The giant pumpkin, grown off Hopkins Avenue in Johnston, is the fourth of the season raised by Sperry.
