To the Editor,

The Herald has thrown its weight behind Allan Fung for Congress. Such is their prerogative. I don’t know whether Mr. Fung will make a good or a bad Congressperson. I can say the same about Seth Magaziner. But I do know that his real test will come -- and it most certainly will come -- when “he is faced with partisan pressure from Republican colleagues to go along with policies that will undoubtedly be unpopular with a majority of Rhode Islanders.” This Republican party has demonstrated that it cares little for what the majority of the nation wants, let alone Rhode Islanders. And it has shown its willingness to do whatever it takes to get its way--including primarying members of its own party.

Perhaps if the desired outcome is to resist partisan (read: Republican) pressure to implement unpopular policies, the surest course would be not to send a Republican to Congress in the first place.
