FUGITIVE APPREHENSION

Around 3:20 p.m., Jan. 11, Warwick Police on patrol near the Motel 6 at 20 Jefferson Boulevard observed a car idling in the parking lot. Officer Nathaniel Gray recognized the two women from a previous arrest, and after running a background check discovered that the car’s registered owner, Teresa D. Dias, 30, of 146 Fisk St., Apt. 1, Providence, had an outstanding arrest warrant out of the Attleboro Police Department for one count of Aggravated Assault.

Police approached Dias, asked for her purse, and cuffed her, placing her in the back of a police cruiser.

Police ran a check on the driver, Evelisse C. Diaz, 26, of 146 Fisk St., Apt. 1, Providence, and discovered she was also wanted by the Attleboro Police Department for one count of Aggravated Assault, and wanted by the Third District Court for Failure to Appear for a pretrial conference for a prior charge of Driving with an Expired/Without License. She was also cuffed and placed in the back of a cruiser.

Following a search of Teresa D. Dias’s purse, police discovered a yellow powdery substance wrapped in a clear plastic baggie. After a field test, the substance tested positive for Fentanyl and weighed about 1.3 grams.

Teresa Dias was charged with one count of Fugitive from Justice and one count of Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substance (less than 10 grams).

Evelisse was charged with one count of Fugitive from Justice and a Bench Warrant Issued from Third District Court.

Both were held at WPD headquarters and awaited transportation to Third District Court for arraignment.

HIT & RUN

Around 3:24 p.m., Jan. 11, police were dispatched to Dunkin Donuts, 1678 Post Road, to investigate the report of a hit and run crash.

The suspected vehicle, a sedan with Rhode Island plates, was reported as having fled south on Post Road with heavy front end damage.

Later, the vehicle was spotted at Gateway Plaza, after a witness followed the car to the parking lot.

Police found Danielle Marie Courtemanche, 40, of 54 Robin St., Apt. 3, Providence, inside Spike’s, though she told them she had not been driving the car.

Witnesses told police that the suspect car struck three vehicles in all, and that all three victims wanted to file complaints.

Witnesses told police they’d be willing to identify the suspect.

A witness at the scene provided police with the following statement: “Witnessed a car crash at the end of Route 37 going on to Post Road. The car that hit the front car took off from the scene. She flew passed me on Post Road and then again on Airport Road driving crazy.”

Based on witness statements, Courtemanche was arrested, cuffed and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters. She was charged with three counts of Failure to Stop for Accident Resulting in Damage to Vehicle, and one count of Driving with Expired License or Without License (third offense). Courtemanche was given a Third District Court date of Feb. 3 and then released.

DUI

At 2:53 a.m., Jan. 13, Warwick Police on patrol on Centerville Road near the Route 95 South exit ramp observed a gray Toyota stopped in the far right-hand lane, engine running, with the brake lights on. According to police, the vehicle rapidly accelerated away and continued to operate erratically.

Police detained the car during a traffic stop and identified the driver as Jacklyn M. Moore, 7 West Shamrock Road, Apt. 1B, Richmond. Police said her eyes were bloodshot and watery and there was a strong odor of alcohol in the vehicle. Moore submitted to standardized field sobriety tests.

Moore was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (0.10-0.15 BAC, first offense), Driving on a Suspended License (third offense), and issued a RI Traffic Tribunal Summons for Laned Roadway Violations and Stopping on Open Portion of Traveled Highway.

FIREWORKS VIOLATION

At 1:45 p.m., Jan. 13, Warwick Police responded to Fireworks RI at 1565 Post Road for the report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, the reporting party told police that a man walked into the store and bought fireworks. The man then exited the store and went into the parking lot and began to light the fireworks.

The witness told police that she advised the man that he could not light the fireworks there. The fireworks that were lit were not aerial, and stayed on the ground, according to the police incident report.

The witness also told police that the customer asked her how he could get a firearm, which she found suspicious, according to police.

Police identified the suspect as a Flushing, New York man, who said he was new to the area and was unaware of how he could obtain a firearm and did not intent to cause panic. He told police that he walked into the store and bought fireworks because it was his friend’s birthday, and he wanted to try the fireworks out in the parking lot. He was subsequently advised by police that he could not light fireworks in the parking lot and was dispersed from the area. No charges were filed.
