Graduating seniors in the building trades programs at Ponagansett Career Tech, Woonsocket Career Tech and at the Warwick Career and Technical Center were recognized for their achievement last Thursday at a scholarship awards ceremony hosted by the Rhode Island Building Officials Association at the Tides Restaurant at the Warwick Center. “You want to get your career on track as soon as possible,” advised Matt Weldon, state director of Labor and Training, one of several speakers at the event. He said there are more job openings today than in 2007. Jeff Sweenor, builder and “This Old House” television program contributor who spoke about the founding and growth of his company urged the students to take advantage of opportunities and to “do everything with excellence…that alone will take you places.” The students received tools donated by Netcoh Sales of Warwick and Stanley Bostitch. Warwick Center students receiving tools of the trades scholarship awards were Heath Arnholt, Joshua Befumo, Joseph LeBelle, Cameron Olivelli, Devin Parker, John Raposo and Nathan Stewart.
