White Cane Day was held at Garden City Center on Oct. 15 and celebrated the independence of Rhode Islanders who are blind and visually impaired. There were family friendly activities including a free t-shirt giveaway, a face painter, balloon artist, food and music. At the event, Speaker of the House K. Joseph Shekarchi presented Ryan Lukowitz with a special citation at White Cane Day. Lukowitz is the Rhode Island Congress’s first blind page. (Photo by Steve Popiel)
