On June 27, 2021, with the help of scouts from Troops 7 and 77 Buttonwoods, Maxwell Gleadow completed his Eagle Scout project. He led the restoration and revitalization the flower beds at Greenwood Elementary School. Max chose Greenwood Elementary due to his past attendance there and his desire to improve the image of the front grounds for the students, faculty, and residents of the neighborhood. He purchased 30 bags of mulch, 16 perennial plants, work gloves, and pizza due to the generous donations from family and Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home on Greenwich Ave. Max was Troop 7’s Scout of the Year for 2020, and on October 6, 2021, became Troop 7 Buttonwoods’ 63rd Eagle Scout. He joins dozens of other Eagles, including his uncle Bill Mortimer, who became Troop 7 Buttonwoods’ 3rd Eagle Scout in 1997. They were both assisted by Mary Ellen Mortimer, Max’s grandmother and Bill’s mother, whose involvement with Troop 7 has influenced many young scouts and their families in a positive way over the past 30 years. A senior at Classical High School, Max is a lineman on the varsity football team. He plans to major in electrical engineering in college. (Submitted photos)
