Rain causes flooding across city

Cars went for a swim in Cranston Sunday night along Rolfe Street during the state’s flash flood warning that was put into effect earlier that day. According to the National Weather Service, the city received 8.02 inches of rain as of 7 a.m. on Sept. 6. Chief of Staff Anthony Moretti said the city was fortunate given the volume of rain Cranston received. He added that there was one report of a downed tree which DPW took care of Tuesday morning and Cranston Fire responded to several homes that experienced significant flooding with a backup of sewage. One of the city’s concerns during the height of the storm was an overflowing dam near Plainfield Pike. The Administration, DPW, Fire Department and the city’s Highway Division monitored the scene. Members of police and fire were posted at various roads across the city warning individuals about road flooding; some drivers chanced the puddles while others decided to turn around.
