DUI

At approximately 12:43 a.m. on Oct. 9, Officer David Gaulin was traveling west on Main Avenue when he observed a Jeep Wrangler repeatedly travel over lane lines.

“It should be noted that the two left wheels exceeded the non-solid white line by approximately six inches, with the full wheel,” the officer reports.

Gaulin activated his cruiser’s lights to initiate a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle did not immediately stop, the officer reports, and once it did, it “mounted the curb and the right wheels came to a rest on the sidewalk.”

Gaulin then made contact with the operator. “Upon my initial contact, a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage was detected to be coming from the vehicle,” he reports, adding that the operator’s eyes were “bloodshot and watery.”

The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that night and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed. He is also said to have refused a preliminary breath test.

Alan K. Mota Estrada, 39, 75 Gough Ave., West Warwick, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Mota Estrada was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence.

He was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test and a laned roadway violation.

Just after 5 p.m. on Oct. 13, Officer Johnathan DiPietro responded to a Cumberland Road address regarding an emergency condition check.

Dispatch advised that a man was slumped over behind the wheel of a Nissan SUV that was stopped in the middle of the roadway.

At the scene, another officer had already arrived and awaken the operator of the vehicle. DiPietro spoke with the operator, who was reportedly “unsteady on his feet, nearly losing his balance several times, and swaying back and forth.” The officer also notes that multiple nip containers of alcohol were in “plain view” within the vehicle’s main passenger compartment.

The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which were reportedly discontinued after he became uncooperative. Taylor A. Parker, 39, 31 Hagen St., Apt. 2, Providence, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing.

While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test. He was also found to be wanted on an active arrest warrant issued from Pawtucket Police and an active bench warrant issued from Sixth Division District Court.

Parker was later transferred into the custody of Pawtucket Police. He was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence and cited for driving with a suspended license, refusal to submit to a chemical test and operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Oct. 17, Officer Keara Enos was conducting a routine patrol on Interstate 95 south when she observed a 2019 Kia Sorento “swerving within its lane.”

“I observed that the rear, passenger-side brake light on the vehicle was not in good working order, and was emitting a bright, white light rather than a red light,” Enosreports. “As the vehicle continued south, I observed both driver’s side tires cross the white dotted line. I then observed the vehicle change lanes without signaling at an appropriate distance.” Enos followed the vehicle as it took exit 12B onto East Avenue. As it entered that roadway, she observed it “drift from the exit of the ramp across two lanes of travel into the left-hand lane.” Additionally, the vehicle’s turn signal was not activated.

Enos reports the vehicle then stopped at a red light, where it was “positioned in a manner so that the majority of the vehicle was forward of the clearly marked stop line.”

When the light turn green, the vehicle proceeded before quickly making a U-turn. At that point, the officer initiated a stop.

Enos made contact with the vehicle’s operator, whose “speech was slurred and slow.”

“I also noted that her movements were slow and slightly delayed, and detected the faint odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath,” the officer reports.

“[Her] eyes were only mildly bloodshot, but appeared water as well.”

The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that night and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Amber L. Fisher, 31, 269 School St., North Kingstown, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Fisher was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, laned roadway violations and failure to use a turn signal.
