On February 10 approximately 1:45 p.m., Officer Arthur Petteruti responded to 1010 Hartford Avenue in reference to a disturbance. At the scene he spoke with the calling party, who stated that he was visiting a friend at the apartment complex. While standing on the front porch, he was approached by Ronald Andrews, 38, of 1010 Hartford Avenue Apt. 3 in Johnston, who was upset about the smell of cigarettes going into his apartment through vents.
Andrews was reportedly yelling in an aggressive manor and subsequently stuck the man on the left side with a closed fist. The man then fell to the ground, but did not lose consciousness. The victim sustained a contusion to the left side of his jaw, however he refused to receive medical treatment at the scene.
Officer Petteruti then spoke with Andrews, who stated that while he was sitting in his residence cigarette smoke began to enter his apartment through his vents. He said he tried to speak with the victim, who he said became confrontational. Andrews allegedly stated that he struck the man in the face during the altercation.
Andrews was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with assault of a person over 60 years old causing bodily injury.
