Longtime Cranston resident Brian A. Moretti has announced his candidacy to run for the Ward One City Council seat in November’s election.

Moretti, who has resided at 302 Norwood Ave. since 2006, was born and raised in Edgewood/Pawtuxet Village neighborhood. He is the youngest of seven children and was raised in a single-parent home, by a strong and loving mother and a supportive extended family. He will be making his first run for public office as a moderate on the local Republican ticket.

“I am a proud product of the Cranston public schools and the youth programs, including eight years participating in the Edgewood Eagles Pop Warner Youth Football League, the Cranston East Little League (aka Edgewood South Elmwood Little League), as well the City of Cranston Summer Youth Camp. As a young child, I grew up to appreciate all the beautiful things that Cranston has to offer and never lost my love of the neighborhoods of Edgewood and Pawtuxet Village, as well as the city as a whole,” said Moretti.

Moretti stated, “After battling and beating cancer in 2022 and reflecting on the challenges I had to overcome, I believe this is the right time for me to come forward and make a positive difference and impact for all of Ward One. I want to help our residents with everyday constituent needs and services.”  Moretti went on to say, “my agenda will be their agenda while pledging to keep an eye on taxes, city spending, education needs and investments, with special advocacy for Ward One schools, as well as making sure residents feel safe in their neighborhoods, and children have safe and clean playgrounds.” 

Moretti said, “Anyone who grew up or lives in Cranston’s eastern section remembers and knows how special this area is. I have always cherished the memories of my youth and pledge to keep the natural beauty and serenity of Edgewood, preserving the charm and community spirit reflected in annual celebrations, like Gaspee Days.”

Moretti serves as a corporate business consultant for Cimplifi, a legal services provider offering professional services and legal technology to law firms and corporate legal departments.  Previously he worked for eight years at Textron Inc. as the enterprise-wide in-house e-discovery manager.

Moretti is currently a board member for Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (“CLOC”) Diversity Equity Inclusion & Belonging “DEIB” Council. The importance of creating a positive and inclusive work environment that recognizes the values and contributions of all employees will be a major influence on Moretti’s approach to city government and working with constituents.  “Recognizing and leveraging unique qualities in people and employees can promote team innovation and productivity from diverse backgrounds, strengths and experiences.”   Moretti emphasized with an inclusive approach and outreach to Ward One residents he can make better informed decisions for his constituents.

Moretti graduated from Cranston High School East in 1991 where he served his classmates as Class President for three years and was named as a Co-Captain of Cranston East Bolts Football Team, earning all-state honors. He attended Franklin Pierce College and the University of Rhode Island and holds several certifications related to his work in electronic discovery and cyber security.   Prior to moving to New York City in 1996, Moretti worked as an executive aide to former Governor Lincoln Almond and former Mayor Michael A. Traficante, where he learned valuable lessons on being held accountable to your words and deeds, and the importance of fairness to all, regardless of political affiliation. 

Moretti returned to Cranston in 2006, after working and living in New York City for 10 years where he met his soulmate, his best friend and future husband.  He is married to Steven Miller, a well-respected local realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty.  He also serves as a member of the Cranston Board of Contract and Purchase.
