Men In Black 3

(Funny, clever sequel)

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back as the odd couple MIB Agents K and J in this funny, clever sequel that engages some of the wildest characters and situations.

The writers have come up with an original concept that involves Agent J (Smith) to go back in time to 1969 to save his partner from being killed by the evil Boris the Animal. ("It's just Boris" the one-armed, uglier-than-sin monster proclaims.) The movie opens with Boris escaping from a steel jail on the moon and returning to Earth to revenge the loss of his arm by agent K (Jones).

Agent J does a "time jump" off the Chrysler Building to change the past and save his grumpy partner. The fall, enhanced by the movie's 3D effects, is spectacular.

Back in 1969, Agent J encounters a much younger and less grumpier Agent K, played by Josh Brolin, who looks and sounds just like a younger Tommy Lee Jones. They encounter all kinds of obstacles and weird creatures as they try to not only save agent K but save the world as well.

It is the year of the moon launch, which figures prominently in the story, filled with nonstop action, close calls and some of the best special effects you will see. Smith is great, playing off Jones and Brolin with funny patter and even a few poignant moments, including a surprise revelation at the end.

Joyce, who is not a big fan of the sci-fi action movies, loved this one. What sets it apart? A tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, characters we care about, even with their weaknesses, a villain to hate, and a very clever makeup crew that gives us creatures we have never seen before. It is all a lot of fun, and wisely moves along at a rapid pace for an hour and 45 minutes.

Rated PG-13, with lots of comic violence. Wait until you see what they do to a Chinese restaurant.
