The Rhode Island Zoological Society and Roger Williams Park Zoo welcomes its newest member, Johnston resident Sandy Coletta, to the board of trustees.

Coletta is a lifelong Rhode Islander who has always had a passion for animals, and appreciates them as companions, as well as members of the natural world, our broader community.

“The RI Zoological Society is thrilled to have Sandy join our board of trustees,” said Dr. Jeremy Goodman, DVM, executive director of the Roger Williams Park Zoo. “Her expertise will be a valuable asset to our organization, and we look forward to her support toward our mission of providing the best care for our animals, and award-winning education and conservation programs.”

Coletta is the current executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of Care New England. She previously served as president and CEO at Kent Hospital (2008-2014), and had worked for Lifespan for 25 years prior. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Providence College (1980) and a master’s in business administration from Bryant University (1988).

She is married with three adult children, three dogs, a parrot, a guinea pig, and a bearded dragon, and her office proudly hosts a lovely fish tank. She tells stories of rescues of injured turtles or birds with her father as a young girl, and looking to RWP Zoo for guidance on how best to rehabilitate and return them to the wild.

Coletta also serves as a trustee of Providence College, and served on the board of The Chaplaincy Center from 2002 to 2010, with five years as board chair.

She is a member of the State Board of Medical Licensure, and has been active in the community through her leadership of the Walk to Defeat ALS (2010), Leukemia and Lymphoma Light the Night Walk (2011) and the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Southern New England (2012).
